Crimson & Blue Lutheran Crew at KU

If you are a student in Lawrence, you do not have to do college life alone. Redeemer Lutheran Church’s campus outreach, the Crimson and Blue Lutheran Crew, exists to be a steady, Christ centered community for University of Kansas and Baker University students, and for young adults who want a real church family while they study, work, and grow in faith.

At its heart, this ministry is beautifully simple, the Word of God taught clearly, the Gospel of Christ preached faithfully, and a community that practices real fellowship. The Crew gathers both on campus and at church, so students have consistent touch points during the week, not just one event here and there. Some gatherings are designed for conversation and questions, others for friendship and fun, and all of them are meant to help students live as Christians in the middle of demanding schedules and a noisy campus environment.

Here are a few of the regular weekly ways students get connected.

Coffee and Christ meets on Mondays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the DeBruce Center. This is a come and go window, so you can stop by between classes, bring a friend, and have a low pressure place to talk, ask questions, or simply take a breather.

Lutheran Lunch Club meets on Thursdays around 11:00 to 11:30 am, also at the DeBruce Center. It is short, simple, and intentionally accessible, a good first step for students who want to meet other Christians without adding one more heavy commitment to the week.

Sunday Fellowship meets on Sundays from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the pastor’s house, with dinner provided. This is where students often experience what many of them are missing, a consistent table, familiar faces, and conversation that is both ordinary and meaningful. It is fellowship that does not require you to perform, it invites you to belong.

Redeemer’s wider worship and study life also forms the backbone of this outreach. Sunday Divine Service is at 10:00 am, with adult Bible study and Sunday school at 9:00 am. There is also a Tuesday evening Bible study at 6:00 pm. On Wednesdays, Matins, morning prayer, is at 7:30 am, followed by a Wednesday morning Bible study at 8:00 am, and midweek worship is offered on Wednesdays as well. For students who want more than a weekly club, this provides a full and steady rhythm of Christian life anchored in the means of grace.

Beyond the weekly schedule, the Crew keeps a full calendar across the school year. There are welcome events early in the semester, including gatherings designed to help new students meet people quickly, plus seasonal events like a Christmas party, and a variety of outings, including bowling, skating, campfires at Clinton Lake, and other social nights that build real friendships. During Hawk Week, there are additional on campus meetups and casual hangouts, including time at the DeBruce Center, a Mass Street get together, Taco Thursday at the pastor’s, and Sunday group after church.

If you are ready to connect, you can email yourcblc at gmail dot com, and for direct pastoral contact you reach out to Pastor Kilgo. Whether you are looking for a Christian student group, a Bible study, a church home, or simply a community that will know your name, the Crimson and Blue Lutheran Crew is here, and you are welcome.
