Hawk Week: KU Christian Student Group

Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence, Kansas warmly invites University of Kansas students to connect during Hawk Week with the Crimson and Blue Lutheran Crew, also known as CBLC. College life is exciting, but it can also feel disorienting when students are arriving in a new city, finding a new schedule, and looking for real friendship. CBLC exists to be a Christian student group where KU students and young adults can find fellowship, food, study, worship, and a genuine home away from home.

Redeemer’s campus ministry is not simply a social calendar with a church label attached to it. It is a Kansas campus ministry rooted in the life of a real congregation, where students are welcomed into the Church’s worship, Scripture study, service, and fellowship. In a college town filled with options, Redeemer offers students something stable, Christ’s Word, historic Lutheran worship, and a community where they can be known, encouraged, and strengthened in faith.

The first gathering is the First Sunday Welcome at Redeemer on Sunday, August 23. Students are invited to join us for church, lunch, and a welcome bag, making this a simple and friendly first step for anyone new to KU or new to Redeemer. Whether you are a freshman, transfer student, returning student, or young adult in Lawrence, this is a good opportunity to meet people and begin the semester with Christian encouragement.

On Thursday, August 27, CBLC will gather for Food and Fun on Mass Street at 5:00 PM, meeting at Papa Keno’s on Mass. This casual event gives students a chance to enjoy downtown Lawrence while connecting with other Christians in a relaxed setting. On Saturday, August 29, students are invited to a Firepit at Redeemer at 6:00 PM in the church courtyard, a warm and easy evening of conversation, friendship, and fellowship.

Sunday, August 30 includes two opportunities to connect. After church, students are invited to enjoy Ice Cream at Redeemer, continuing the fellowship that grows naturally around the Divine Service. Later that same day, Sunday Group meets at the pastor’s house at 5:30 PM for food, games, and study, giving students a regular rhythm of Christian community at the start of the week.

On Monday, August 31, Coffee and Christ meets at the DeBruce Center from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Students can come and go as their schedules allow, and the flyer reminds students to look for Pastor. This is a low pressure way to ask questions, meet someone between classes, or simply take a break in the middle of a busy campus day.

On Thursday, September 3, Breakfast Club meets at the DeBruce Center from 8:30 to 9:00 AM. Students should again look for Pastor and enjoy a short, accessible gathering before the day gets fully underway. Later that evening, Taco Thursday meets at the pastor’s house at 6:00 PM, offering food, hospitality, and another chance to build friendships in the CBLC community.

If you have questions, need directions, or need a ride, contact the church. If you are searching for a church in Lawrence KS, a Christian student group near KU, or a Lutheran campus ministry where faith, friendship, and worship belong together, Redeemer Lutheran Church would be glad to welcome you. You are not alone, and you have a place with the Crimson and Blue Lutheran Crew.
