Lent Service in Lawrence KS at Redeemer
Lent is the Church’s gift to busy and burdened people. It is a season set apart to slow down, to listen carefully, to repent honestly, and to fix our eyes on Jesus Christ as He goes willingly to the cross for us and for our salvation. Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence, Kansas warmly invites you to come and walk this Lenten road with us, not as spiritual tourists, but as saints and sinners who need the mercy of God and who are learning again where that mercy is found.
If you are searching for churches in Lawrence KS, a church in Lawrence KS where worship is reverent and centered on Christ, or a Lutheran Church committed to the historic faith, Lent is a beautiful time to visit. At Redeemer, the Lenten emphasis is not on religious performance, but on the Gospel, the crucified and risen Lord giving forgiveness, life, and salvation through His Word and Sacraments. Lent tells the truth about sin, but it tells an even greater truth about grace.
Begin your week with the Divine Service on Sunday morning at 10:00 am. The Divine Service is not chiefly our offering to God, it is God’s gracious service to us. He gathers us, speaks His Word, absolves sins for Jesus’ sake, and strengthens faith with His promises. Before worship, we also offer Sunday Adult Bible Class and Sunday School at 9:00 am, a steady and welcoming setting for learning the Scriptures and growing in the confession of Christ. As the week unfolds, Redeemer’s Lenten rhythm continues. On Wednesdays, the congregation gathers for Matins, morning prayer, at 7:30 am. Immediately following Matins, at 8:00 am, we meet for Wednesday in the Word, a midweek Bible study that offers real nourishment from the Scriptures. This is a calm and substantive time in the Word of God, with space for questions and thoughtful reflection, suited for those who are new to Bible study and those who have spent years in the text.
On Wednesday evenings, Redeemer offers the Divine Service at 7:00 pm. For many, this midweek service becomes a spiritual anchor during Lent, a pause in the week to confess sins, hear the Gospel clearly, and receive again what Christ delights to give. It is especially fitting in Lent to return often to the places where the Lord has promised to meet us, in preaching, prayer, and the holy gifts of His Church. And all of this aims toward the great culmination of the season, Holy Week. Lent is a journey, but it is not aimless. It leads us to the cross, where the Son of God bears our sin, silences our accusations, and reconciles us to the Father. It leads us to the faith that clings, like Jacob, refusing to let go until the Lord blesses. It leads us to the humble confidence that brings empty hands to Christ, trusting that He is merciful, and that His mercy is sufficient.
Whether you are a longtime member, a returning visitor, or someone who has never stepped into a Lutheran Church before, you are welcome at Redeemer. Come walk with us. Come as saints and sinners. Come hear the Word that diagnoses and heals. Come receive the Christ who goes to the cross for you, and who brings His people through Lent to the joy of Easter.
