Thank You for Serving at the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Bed Build
Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence, Kansas gives thanks for everyone who came out to serve at the recent Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed build. This event invited volunteers of all ages to help build beds for children ages 3 to 17 who do not have a bed to sleep on at night. What a blessing it was to see people give their time, energy, and care for the sake of children and families in our community.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace provides beds at no cost to children who are sleeping in difficult conditions, including on floors, couches, air mattresses, or sharing beds with parents or siblings. Their work is practical, direct, and deeply needed. A bed may seem like an ordinary thing, but for a child it means safety, rest, comfort, and dignity. That is why a project like this matters so much. It is a concrete way to love the neighbor.
A Hands-On Work of Mercy
The bed build took place on Saturday, September 26, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, in partnership with Lutherans for Life of Kansas. Volunteers gathered to help build beds and support a project that is free for the families who receive them. For those who were unable to assist with the building itself, there was also an opportunity to contribute twin size sheets and bedding to be donated along with the beds.
Christian service is often very ordinary in appearance. It looks like showing up, signing up, lifting wood, working with tools, preparing supplies, donating bedding, encouraging others, and giving a few hours for someone else’s good. Yet in those ordinary acts, the love of Christ is made visible. We do not serve in order to earn God’s favor. We serve because Christ has already loved us, forgiven us, and sent us to care for the neighbor.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible. Thank you to those who built, organized, donated, encouraged, and prayed for the children and families who will receive these beds. We are grateful for the partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Lutherans for Life of Kansas, and we are thankful for the many hands that made the afternoon fruitful.
